Coronary angioplasty guidewires – technical illustration

RoundBox Health in Cary, North Carolina commissioned me to illustrate a series of guidewires used in a medical procedure known as coronary angioplasty.

Interventional guidewires are the platinum coil guide wires are inserted into blood vessels along with an infltatable balloon. When the balloon passes the point of the constriction in the blood vessel, the balloon is inflated and pulled through the constriction, which enlarges the vessel and dislodges the blockage.
